Waiting periods in our life

What does it mean to wait on the Lord?

Psalm 27:14 says, "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."

Wait on the Lord, two things: 1. courage 2. refined heart

So, what is courage?
1. COURAGE

Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
1 Chronicles 17:25
"You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you.
1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.
Philippians 1:20
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
Hebrews 3:6
But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

Reading these verses tells me that courage is standing firm in faith of who Christ is and boasting of Him throughout the world.

Be courageous to obey. Be courageous to stand up for what you believe in. Be courageous in Christ.

"...and he shall strengthen thine heart."

2. Refined Heart

2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Psalm 28:7
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Jeremiah 17:5
This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.
1 Thessalonians 3:13
May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
Hebrews 13:9
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them.

During the waiting periods of our lives we are to still act in obedience and through it he will strengthen us to continue in His will.

and in all of this why do we wait?

Psalm 37:34
Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
Psalm 119:166
I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands.

We wait for His salvation.
2 Samuel 23:5
"Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?

Psalm 5:3
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.
